About
Tubby & Padman....
| The name Tubby and
Padman comes originally from the first owners, George Padman and Mrs Tubby
his mother-in-law. The property was built circa 1840 as a two-storey department
store. It has been well documented that the top storey of the building
was removed and placed somewhere in the structure of the Oyster Bay Inn.
Tubby and Padman's is an ideal place for that
Romantic Getaway or Honeymoon. The property overlooks the Great Oyster
Bay to Freycinet Peninsula. Luxuriate in a bubbling Spa or idle away the
evening feasting on fish and chips, sipping a selection of East Coast wines,
watching the sunset reflecting on the Hazards Mountain Range. If you prefer,
dine at the many restaurants within walking distance of T&Ps.
The situation provides a good base on the East
Coast of Tasmania to access the Freycinet Peninsula - fancy abseiling,
sea kayaking, fishing charters or just walking on the beach. Visit Launceston,
Hobart or the Midlands. Visit National Parks, and Maria Island. Return
to enjoy the tranquillity of a historic country town.
As history proceeds, the property has been owned
both privately and for commercial ventures. One of the most well known
ventures to the locals of Swansea was its time as a nursing home, 'The
Swansea Cottage Nursing Home'. Many of the locals recall time spent with
loved ones. The 'Swansea Cottage Nursing Home' ceased to operate in the
1980's when the May Shaw Nursing Centre was built. Once a nursing home,
and then privately owned. Now operates as self contained bed & breakfast suites and apartments proudly owned and operated by Greg and Sue Lodge. |
